NEEDS
- Dentists/Orthodontists require a prescription from a physician and Letter of Medical Necessity in order to dispense oral appliances.
- Patients identified by dentists/orthodontist and referred for sleep studies or sleep consultation may be lost in the disjointed health system.
- Dentists may need a sleep specialist for patients who fail oral appliances for sleep apnea or who need simultaneous alternative treatments (i.e. PAP plus oral appliances).
- Dentists may need a sleep specialist to assess for other concomitant sleep disorders that may reduce overall clinical efficacy of oral appliances (i.e. sleep apnea plus insomnia).
